Compare the best brokers, banks, crypto exchanges and forex brokers in Netherlands for 2026. Only AFM-regulated platforms reviewed.
The Netherlands has a dual financial regulatory structure: the AFM (Autoriteit FinanciΓ«le Markten) oversees conduct of business and investor protection for investment firms, while De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) handles prudential supervision of banks and insurers. All platforms listed operate under AFM licence or a valid MiFID II passport. The Netherlands is also home to DEGIRO, one of Europe's largest online brokers.
Dutch bank deposits are protected up to β¬100,000 per institution by the Depositogarantiestelsel (DGS). Investment assets at authorised brokers are covered up to β¬20,000 under the Dutch investor compensation scheme. Dutch investors commonly use iDEAL β the country's dominant online payment system β to fund brokerage accounts, though not all international platforms support it.
The Netherlands has a unique tax system for investors: instead of taxing actual capital gains, the Box 3 system taxes a deemed return on your investment assets (currently a notional rate of ~6.17% for 2026, taxed at 36%). This makes buy-and-hold strategies relatively tax-efficient for lower-return assets. DEGIRO, Saxo Bank, and Interactive Brokers are widely used by Dutch investors.
All platforms listed for Netherlands are regulated by Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) or are passported into Netherlands under EU MiFID II / ESMA rules. We do not list unregulated or offshore brokers.
