Suriname uses the Surinamese Dollar (SRD) and is one of the few Dutch-speaking countries in South America. The economy is heavily dependent on gold mining, oil, and agriculture.
Suriname has faced significant currency depreciation and inflation in recent years, prompting many Surinamese to seek USD-denominated alternatives for savings. The domestic capital market is very small. Suriname is a member of CARICOM (as an associate member) and has strong ties to the Netherlands, which means some Surinamese investors can access Dutch financial services (DEGIRO, Bunq) or maintain Dutch bank accounts.
For investment purposes, Surinamese investors with access to USD or EUR bank accounts (many maintain Dutch connections) can access international platforms. Crypto adoption has grown significantly as a hedge against SRD depreciation, with P2P platforms on Binance widely used. Capital gains tax treatment is not well-defined for most financial instruments given the limited formal investment sector.
All platforms listed for Suriname are regulated by CBvS Suriname or are internationally regulated brokers accepted locally. We do not list unregulated or offshore-only brokers.
