All investment firms operating in Brazil must hold CVM authorisation. Brazil has one of Latin America's most sophisticated financial markets, anchored by the B3 (Brasil, Bolsa, Balcão) exchange.
Brazilian bank deposits are protected up to R$250,000 per institution per CPF by the Fundo Garantidor de Créditos (FGC). For brokerage accounts, securities are held in custody at B3's depository — if a broker fails, client assets remain segregated. PIX (Brazil's instant payment system) has become the dominant method for funding investment accounts since its 2020 launch, operating 24/7 with no transfer fees.
Brazil's most popular local broker is XP Investimentos, followed by BTG Pactual digital and Nubank's Nu Invest. International platforms like Interactive Brokers are popular among Brazilians wanting USD exposure. Note that IOF (Imposto sobre Operações Financeiras) and capital gains taxes apply — rates depend on asset type and holding period.
All platforms listed for Brazil are regulated by Comissão de Valores Mobiliários (CVM) or are internationally regulated brokers accepted locally. We do not list unregulated or offshore-only brokers.
